Bringing Ukraine closer to NATO and the EU: interview with EU spokesperson Cristina Gallach – Völker- und Europarecht AKTUELL
In November 2004, Ukraine became the centre of interest as hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians resisted the cold, protesting against the election-fraud of the Kuchma-regime. They put their hopes on Yulia Tymoshenko and Viktor Yushchenko who announced radical internal reforms. The promotion of democracy, market economy and the rule of law should bring Ukraine closer to the EU and NATO. A year after the «Orange Revolution», Cristina Gallach, spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, gives Ukraine credit for its achievements. In an interview with Jusletter in Brussels, she points out, however, that currently the question of the country´s membership should not be raised.
