Companies take data protection serious. Effective and appropriate privacy protection is a business enabler, not a barrier. However, companies are more and more confronted not only with diverging data protection laws in their different regions of operations but at the same time with information and documentation requests by Governments. Bureaucratic and formalistic requirements often neglect the economic perspective. Business has done its homework and strengthened internal procedures and structures to ensure compliance. They need a flexible environment facilitating commercial operations to the benefit of growth. Companies shall neither become victims of groups representing special interests nor requested to act as parallel enforcement mechanisms. Inhibiting data flows undermines economic growth.
