Curriculum

Roland Mathys is a partner in Schellenberg Wittmer’s Information and Communication Technology and Intellectual Property Group in Zurich. His core field of practice is information and communication technology (ICT) law, and he also works frequently in intellectual property (IP) law and competition law. In ICT, he often advises clients in outsourcing transactions and major technology projects. He also renders advice in all matters related to software development, IP protection and licensing, and emerging technologies. Data protection, technology related compliance issues and ICT dispute resolution are further strong fields of his activity.

Roland Mathys is recommended by Chambers Europe, Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal. According to quotes from Chambers Europe, he is an «experienced and well-known technology lawyer». Roland Mathys regularly publishes on ICT law and frequently speaks at international and national conferences on emerging legal issues in technology. He is a member of several ICT focused professional associations such as the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Swiss Forum for Communication Law (SF•FS), the Institute for the Protection of Industrial Property (INGRES), the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) or the German Association of Law and Informatics (DGRI). He serves as a panelist to the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and acts as a director of ITechLaw, as an officer of the IBA Technology Committee and as a co-chair of the Law Committee of Swiss ICT, the leading Swiss organization of ICT professionals.

Roland Mathys graduated in business administration and computer science from Zurich University (lic.oec.publ./MA, 1994) and in law (summa cum laude) from Basel University (lic.iur./MLaw, 1998). In 2003, he earned an LL.M. in ICT law from the London School of Economics (LSE). Before joining Schellenberg Wittmer in 2014, Roland Mathys worked for a major Swiss business law firm in Basel as partner and head of the firm’s ICT, IP and competition practice team.
