In the middle of the 80’s, media rights to popular sporting events grew in importance. Sports leagues began to negotiate these rights, thus engaging in an economic activity exceeding their regulatory function. The Competition authorities started dealing with sport and observing these changes from an economic point of view. This paper focuses upon the economics of the sports media rights and the appraisal of the relevant markets with regard to their acquisition and sale.
